THINKTANK

I would like to start a thinktank about some aspects of tablets, their use and way to work with them. The tablet makers dictate us how we live and what we need, but maybe it should be the other way around. Maybe we should tell them what we want first. Adam is the first tablet developed with input of people from all around the world. That's a wonderful start! Adam 2 will and can certainly be even better. Now that Adam 1 is launched, it is interesting to think about what could have been done better to perhaps even (RE)DESIGN A WHOLE NEW CONCEPT, something compatible or complementary to Adam. What we don't know yet. That's the nice and interesting part of it. We don't know where it will get us.

I'd like to make a group of people from different work fields, and take us through  different phases to finally reach a new product really designed for everyone. Ideally the group would also contain technicians and developers and some people of NOTIONINK too. We want to build further on what NI started and help them.

Phases
1) Inventory: gathering as much as possible information, running ideas, needs,...
2) Interpretation: searching for relations, connections, making schemes, ...
3) Evaluation: what works well, what not
4) the problems: what are the REAL problems and which are less relevant?
5) Alternative options and solutions
6) The design....

Who wants to be part of this? Everybody is welcome.

  2. How Eve was created:
After walking too long alone on the world, Adam asks God to create him some kind of partner. God replies to him that actually he had something in mind: sexy, nice-looking, intelligent, funny, practical, much better than a man, mentally stronger, ...
Adam gets exited and asks Him what he needs to create this new creature. "Only an arm and a leg", says God.
Adam is hesitating now: ".... and what can you get me for only a rib?"...

  3. I thought these posts belonged here more than anywhere else, so I copied them, hope that's ok:

I for example would really like the functionality of the Asus Eee note ea800. Mainly for sketching. A nice example of this, can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIwKg-KyZ58

I know notion ink has no pen interface, but sketching with a finger, doesn't appeal that much too me. :)

In the QI version there is the screen option that "looks pretty much like paper", also black and white I assume just like the Eee. Well, I'd love to see a sketching program developed for that, that will cancel out "touch" interface temporarily when the program runs and then adopts a pen interface instead, preferably with at least 512 levels of pressure sensitivity.

Maybe inputting it in the hardware like the eee , would make the tablet too expensive (but the Eee only costs around 200euro's as well, so ... I dunno about that :) ), but there are other options. Ten One Design is allegedly creating a pressure sensitive pen for on the ipad, which you can observe here: http://www.cultofmac.com/ten-one-design-demos-pressure-sensitive-ipad-stylus/49437

They make the pen + software create the pressure sensitivity. Perhaps Notion Ink can find such a company as well ?

Anyway, if an innovations section is added, then perhaps this post can be moved there. ;)

What the asus is showing here is really pretty amazing and fun. It reacts also very quickly and precisely. That 's not the same result as with the softemulation on the ipad. Of course it could be the processor of the ipad, but probably also the fact that it is an emulation. So i would also prefer your idea of a "dual" screen and having the real stuff. ... but probably that will not be possible.
The questionis, Is such a function interesting for people that will occasionaly use this function or is the demand for this big. If your would be a graficus, you would maybe not use the Adam, or any other tablet!, you would want to have a professional more powerfull computer....?
I like drawing , and yes a portable sketchbook would be very nice to me, and probably Canvas is not perfect as long I can't use a pen... I'd like a CAD-program on it too (small one , just to materialize up coming ideas and test them....). PLEASE, CAN SOMEONE HEAR US? ;)
Does someone know the fysical diffrenc between the
    two type of screens?

  4. Once it gets here, I'm going to try to DIY a stylus, some mixture of these two:

  5. I think the screen differencesvare both hardwarecand software. I have been practicing with an iPad and drawcast. It has pen sizes down to I unit so you get quite a variety in what you can draw it is not spontaneous, ax you have to pick the size and pressure/color first.

I use design review ona pc and also auto desk WS on the iPad. The ideal app would combine saving the PDF to the tablet, annotating using both internal routines and handsketches, combining jogs or photos to sketch on top of, and an ability o key existing photo documentation to the PDFs, either as you ake the photos or from already processed shots.

Notes and markups should've able to be accessed without re-entering info from the office LAN by all users.

  6. Hi Deecee: I'll provide you some ideas about this from mee too this week. I think we can create something nice here, that is usefull for a lot of people. As an architect I have some special needs too.

  7. Sorry about the last post. It is very easy to drag a finger on the iPad and hit extra keys. It's predictive text does not learn easily. With a specialized field, like architecture, there should be a very quick way to learn new words, abbreviations and acronyms.

I'm still looking for a native or cloud sketchup type application, as well. I know that is long shot because of processor limitations.

The other developer wish is the ability to link use the space of two panels for the PDF, and have third panel be for the tools. This is where honeycomb and it's scrolling widgets may be a bid help.
