Are the problems real concerning the screens? Lots of people get hooked on Adam because of this new screen they present on their tablet. A revolution. PixelQI is there as a nice combination of two worlds. People who thought of buying an e-reader suddenly see possibilities in a tablet that besides reading can also give them other functionalities. E-book-readers miss a lot of possibilities and Adam looks like the ideal tablet /reader. Outside with back light off it reads as good as an ereader (an Ipadkiller here for sure!); inside with back light on we get a regular colourful screen. Now it seems that colours are not that bright as on a normal LCD. Is it a problem? Can we live with it? Actually I would like high contrast when I watch a movie, but I'd never watch on my tablet , having my superp plasma at home....
The pixelQI also claims to use less energy. That's wonderfull. But how much less then the LCD? Maybe enough reason on itself to take that screen? Or is it just the fact we don't have a brilliant screen. The surface is mat to avoid reflections and reduce finger smudging. At work we don't have brilliant LCD-screens neither. It would be very annoying for me as an architect drawing the whole day. We miss sometime this high-contrast feeling, but at the other hand never suffer from unwanted reflections. .... Of course these are professional monitors, very expensive, without "blochiness"....
So, these are just some thoughts I wanted too share. What are your feelings? What did or will you choose? (There is a little survey in the sidebar!)
This is a blog specially for users of the ADAM-tablet of NotionInk. This is a serious blog meaning to gather and make at disposition information of how the tablet can be made useful in different "workfields" and in different language-zones. It's a place where people can share their information and knowledge to help others and newcomers in the world of Adam and Android.
This was the last product I ever ordered from India.
ReplyDeleteI did order this item and then canceled because of the first round of delays. I was not happy with the way Rohan is hiding the facts. I am disappointed that there is not a single apology for all the mistakes (intentional or unfortunate). Some of their mistakes I believe they should own
ReplyDelete- Changes to the specifications such as 8gb+ storage vs 8 GB (more variants coming soon) vs 8 GB, Matt screen vs Matt screen protector
- Only 50 Pre-Orders moving to batch 2 and then only 5.13% of Batch 2 + batch 3 are now moved to Feb 14 etc.
- the mystery feature
I wish they were more customer friendly. Most of the NI pre-order customers will be happy to receive prompt updates from anyone from NI, not necessarily from Rohan himself.
Having done a transplant of a PiQi screen before on a netbook with great results, I've an idea of what to expect from such screen under different situations. It's not e-ink but it serves the same purpose and the viewing angles aren't great compared to a regular LCD.
ReplyDeleteSome people would not be satisfied by this and will continue to whine, complain and nitpick until the end of time.
To those people I say stick to your iCrap and let the rest of the more knowledgeable (this being a hackers tablet delight)
people that value technology in this device enjoy it.
I am an Architect and spend time on construction sites and also evaluating existing buildings. I have used touch screen PDAs, smartphones and pc tablets trying to get easy input devices on to the construction field. I will get the PiQi screen, knowing that it is a compromise, but one I think is the best of the options available to me.
ReplyDeleteThe pc tablets that can be read in the field are heavy, they do not have very good battery life and are comparatively expensive. The better, named brand ones try to offer a workable solution, with a solid state drive (to save battery, weight and heat), high backlighting but charge dearly for a mediocre solution.
The current crop of tablets - iPAD and android are barely visible in the sun. They are very handy for meetings and note taking - but that use seems limiting. Admittedly, I haven't looked at a rooted Nook.
So for a working tablet, the compromise to get good outside viewability, with some color, the 10" inch format and the possibility of developing apps that will allow me to view two documents at a time, are worth the compromises of the PiQi screen.
I don't know any more. I was actually a bit disappointed with the PQi performance and have since asked two people to test out a color re-calibration of their screen. I did this because I read in on some site of people with laptop PQi's that after a re-calibration their colors were much better. There was even somebody on the NI forum, having a PQi laptop, confirming this fact.
ReplyDeleteInitially one of the people I suggested it to jumped on the opportunity and tried out the program I suggested, but couldn't immediately get it installed. He/she asked about it on another forum but has since than not replied any more.
The other has not replied at all....
I for one would've really liked to have seen either a side by side comparison of both Adam LCD and Adam PQi. OR an optimized PQi adam by having re-calibrated the screen.
Right now I know pre-order2 is closing in, and I am hesitating immensely, not knowing which one to get any more. :(
The LCD version is just a lot cheaper... and "what if" I will just never be happy with the PQi, I'll hit myself over the head for having spent the additional money on it for sure... But on the other hand, I was looking forward to being able to read it on public transport, or sitting in the sun, ... Ah well ...
Hi,
ReplyDeletePreorder has started! I just got this mail 15 minutes ago after asking them about the rumours preorder 2 started.
"This is just 1st batch of orders & there will be many more in next 15days. Please look out for an email from us for same in next 15days.
Happy to Help :)
Regards,
Steve"
I'm hesitating too, but I think I'll take the risk taking one. I think I want to do more with it than just what I did before. I'm sure that once I'll enjoy using it outdoors I'll be happy. After having seen the Ipad of my brother outside I found it so badlooking there, the same with the fingersmudging . Adam attracted me in the first case just because of that. Even if as an architect I love perfect images, I think I will never be entirly satisfied having the lcd and knowing that I didn't go for it. I aalso think that eventually I'll be able to update the screen later when a bette version would come
